AUDIOVISUAL INFRASTUCTURE AL THE TRADE FAIR AND CONVENTION CENTRE OF MÁLAGA

These facilities are located in a privileged area near the park of the new Fairtrade City and the city centre. It is about 10 minutes from Malaga Airport, 10 minutes from the port and close to the motorway to the west.

The facilities occupy 41,000 square metres on a plot of 73,000 square metres. The main building is structured to include access areas, central patio, exhibition modules, maintenance, catering, conference spaces, etc. There is also a service building used for offices, media rooms and complementary areas. The project implemented by Ruybesa covered different areas:

Infrastructure for audiovisual rooms

The system chosen for interconnection between the different modules of the complex was a star-like connection infrastructure capable of sending and receiving audio and video, graphics, data and fibre-optic signals between halls and control cabins. Composed of connector panels integrated into the flooring of all control cabins with distributors for different video or audio signals, this system offers a comprehensive solution with a high quality finish.

Advanced video systems

We cannot not emphasize enough the excellence of this video-projection system, video camera arrangement, series of processors and video playback / recording system. The main halls are equipped with high brightness video projectors (5,000 ANSI lumens) with versatile optical 3.5-5.5:1 zoom coupled to a motorized system that allows retraction and change of the colour of the ceiling, and a 6×4 metre electric screen with automatic retraction. The other halls are equipped with 3,500 and 2,000 lumen projectors, also installed using extendable supports. Other rooms have projection systems such as light boxes for slides and document readers. There are also 3 multipurpose CCDs, colour video cameras with ½” (6.6 to 112.2 mm) lenses for recording events and remotely operated colour cameras at specific positions. Video sources include equipment ranging from MP3 players to DVD players compatible with any audio / video format existing today.

Professional sound and acoustic study

Focused on achieving the highest quality for this type of complex, we developed an acoustic study of the required sound parameters (SPL direct/reverberant, critical distance, echograms, RaSTI, etc.). From this acoustic study, and depending on individual spaces, we decided to install the following equipment: three full range emission systems for each of the two main halls, an acoustic two-way 300+100W cabinet with two constant directivity short horns constant, the long-horn equivalent in two symmetrical 150 600 + W cabinets and 1200 high efficiency W subwoofer, all powered by specialized 1,400 W MOSFET stereo channel amplifiers. The other rooms were equipped with speakers similar to the above but with 400 + 150 W

Conferencing system

It is possible to bring together different conferences in the same space with this system. It has microphones mounted in individual units for the chairmen and delegates. The chairmen has his own panel with microphone with advanced controls for the cancellation of the other microphones. The system also allows control of tracking priorities for unmanned conferences, making it possible to automatically manage the microphones.

Simultaneous translation system

Throughout the length of the main halls there are up to four simultaneous translation booths. Each contains an installation of two units consisting of the translator’s panel, which allows control of up to six languages, and a 6-channel integrated speaker. There is also a video monitor to aid in following the speaker. A switch management module controls everything and high power infrared signals makes intercommunication possible. Finally, there is a connection panel dedicated to the commutation of all the signals necessary for simultaneous translation.

TV distribution via satellite

During installation, we provided the equipment necessary for the distribution of external TV-SAT signals. This included the reception of 6 terrestrial TV channels, high amplification equipment, one FM channel, 8 channels from two 1.20 m satellite dishes for external Astra and Eutelsat TV-SAT systems. It also incorporates a number of distributors, diverters, amplifiers and other equipment necessary to ensure a minimum signal at each of the outlets defined in the project.

Sound reinforcement system

PTo meet the required quality standards, not only for sound recovery, but also for parameters of clarity and speech intelligibility, the following sound output configuration for was chosen: 8 high quality diffusers integrated into the false ceiling, surface speakers fully integrated into the architectural environment and 150 W professional sound systems chosen according to the results of our acoustic study. The equipment is powered by a 600 W and 150 W microprocessor system that manages all the amplification. We also paid special attention to other aspects including ease of use and versatility for users, installing a control system in the microphone panels, which allows individual control of each social area, and an ICS advanced public address management system. Another advantage of this facility is its efficient automatic gain control, which dynamically adapts the emission level according to background noise in the environment.

Matrix, processing & control system

There are a number of digital controllers governed by a powerful server that works permanently at the heart of the installation. This entire system operates automatically but can be operated manually via a series of touchscreens located at different points. This allows monitoring, control, processing and routing of any event taking place in the global system.
